Central Alentejo Intermunicipal Climate Change Adaptation Plan
The Central Alentejo Intermunicipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change encompasses the 14 municipalities of the Central Alentejo region. Its main objective is to increase knowledge about the climate vulnerability of this territory and define an intermunicipal strategy to promote adaptation and local adaptive capacity.
The methodological approach followed international references in climate change adaptation planning, while adjusted to this particular territorial and institutional context. It started with an evaluation of the impacts and consequences of extreme climate events and long-term tendencies, and ended with an adaptation strategy and an action plan with measures and projects to be implemented in the next years.
The planning process was followed by several communication actions focused on different groups to promote a common adaptive path. Simultaneously, it was developed a training program for intermunicipal and municipal officials, which included training workshops with national experts.
The plan was developed by a technical team led by CEDRU, which included specialists from the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon, We Consultants, the University of Évora, the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the New University of Lisbon, and TIS.pt.
